Claire Throssell vows to 'challenge every court in the land'

A campaigning mother whose two sons were killed by their father has urged the Government to re-haul the family court system to avoid more children “being handed to abusers”.

Since Claire Throssell’s two sons were killed in 2014, seven more children have died at the hands of a known perpetrator of domestic abuse, calling for tighter legislation on children’s rights in family courts.

An arrest has been made following the investigation into the death of Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson.

Officers announced today that a man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in police custody at this time.

On Saturday 28 October Adam Johnson was seriously injured during an ice hockey game between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers and was later pronounced dead in hospital due to a fatal neck injury.

Shop owners in Catcliffe left devastated after impacts of flood

Owners of a convenience store in Catcliffe have been left unable to open for three weeks due to the impacts caused by Storm Babet.

Roj-Kumar Bagawathram, 35, owner of the Family Shopper in Catcliffe has estimated that his business has lost over £100,000 due to the loss of trade caused by the flood.

Flooded water reaching two-and-a-half metres high inside the premises, meant all the shelving has been destroyed and remains floating around the shop.

Three men arrested over suspected exploitation

Three men were arrested 31 October in Manor and Arbouthorne due to suspected exploitation.


The men were arrested as part of a ‘joint operation’ by the police targeting locations in Sheffield linked with exploitation. 


A 36 year old man has been arrested and put on bail on suspicion of exploitation and forced labour following a warrant at a residential address in the Manor area.

Former banned boxer Liam Cameron reaches one year sober

The boxer from Littledale in Sheffield celebrated his 33rd birthday and ‘one year sober’ on Saturday.

Mr Cameron said: “It was good but it was just a little goal. I’ll never drink again, that’s 100%.

“A year’s an achievement, but it’s just an ordinary day. It’s nice to say I’ve not drunk for a year.”

The ‘Sheffield Home of Football’ charity celebrated its official launch, amongst footballing legends, at the Town Hall last week.
